Here I am going to tell how to get started with your new pi . I am assuming that you have a pi, a monitor, keyboard, mouse, LAN cable.
Before doing anything with pi, get a card reader (should be a good quality otherwise you may have the problem, I will suggest SD card adapter). Insert an fresh SD in it . It should look like as below
To put OS in the card, two softwares are needed. Steps are shown below to get those softwares
1.open you web browser and go to this link and download and install it. Here you are installing SD card formatter necessary to format your SD card. run the software and you will see the following screen
select your SD card from drive tab and then go to option tab and select format type QUICK and format size adjustment ON and then format your card.
2.Download the OS for the pi by going through this link. The file will be of big size (between 1-2 GB). After downloading you will have a zip file. Extract it somewhere on your PC. You will see a file with extension .img. This is the image file of OS which we need to put on your SD card.
3.Open again your web browser and go to this link to download win32 disk imager. Download and install it. Open win32 disk imager and select this .img file which you had downloaded from step2 then select your SD card (be sure again that its detecting your SD card, not anything else). Click on Write. You may be seen some warning but just ignore them and click Ok. You will find the Image file is now writing to your SD card. Go an have a coffee, it will take some time.
Now you have your SD card with an OS on it (quite cool). Get your PI, put SD card on it. Connect USB mouse, keyboard, monitor (PI has HDMI port, if your monitor does not have HDMI port, Go and buy an HDMI to VGA or HDMI to DVI cable depending on what port does your monitor has). Finally, give power to pi.
You will get some scripts on your monitor as soon as you power your pi. Now you are ready with your pi. Enjoy
